Located in the center of Niigata Prefecture, Tsubame City is easy to reach via the Joetsu Bullet Train and the Hokuriku and Kan-etsu Expressways. The domestic share of Western tableware production is over 96% and the tableware is exported all over the world.

Yoshida Town and Bunsui Town in former Nishi-kambara County merged to start the new city of Tsubame on March 20, 2006.
